Cleaning Band and Choir Uniforms
Apr 21, 2025As we reach the end of the school year, now is the perfect time to reach out to schools to secure the cleaning of their band uniforms, choir outfits, and the costumes they use for theatrical performances.
Most school districts like to have this work arranged well before the end of the school year, as band and choir directors can be away from school during the summer months.
Always include complimentary pick-up and delivery. The schools do not want to worry about the transportation of the items.
Offer small alterations up to a certain dollar amount, and get their approval if it exceeds the approved amount. It is common for the hems to come out and zippers to stick in band pants.
Talk to the school about how they would like the items returned once you have cleaned them – do sets need to be matched up, do they get returned on original hangers or new ones, and do they want the items covered in poly?
You can ask for counts of how many items they have – this is especially helpful for districts where you will go to many different schools and need to create volume pricing for the district.
You can create pricing by the job, by the set, or by the piece.
Remember you are dealing with school teachers or administrators who do not typically make a lot of money and are often held to a budget. Be helpful when it comes to explaining price and billing.
Always show appreciation and visit the decision makers who gave you the work. Consider taking doughnuts, bagels, or some other snack to show your appreciation for choosing you.
You are creating a relationship that will pay off for years to come.
Don’t wait on securing this work. If you do, it might be too late, and summer break will be here before you know it!
Have a great week!
