The Great Comforter Opportunity

Ever since the mid-1980s, drycleaning and laundered shirt piece counts have declined. Sure, you can increase piece counts overall if you increase your market share by adding new clients. You also need to focus on being a specialist in at least one growing service.

I chose bedding and it has really paid off. Last year, almost one-third of our total profit came from cleaning comforters. That is more than $400,000 PROFIT (not just revenue) in cleaning comforters alone. Not to mention shams, bed sheets, duvet covers, and pillow cleaning.

Most drycleaners do not want to clean more comforters because it ties up one of their machines while only processing one or two items. The reluctance of competitors to run toward this service is one of the reasons why you SHOULD run toward it. It is a wide-open opportunity.

If you’re facing a capacity issue, you can send a team member to a laundromat and have them clean comforters there, since 80% of comforters can be laundered.

Cleaning comforters is also our most popular way to attract our target prospects – give them an irresistible offer on cleaning a comforter, and they will almost always bring in other items with the comforter. Then you have a new client.
