Manage Your Energy

Aug 05, 2024

This past week, I found myself being challenged on some social media posts I created. We recently installed some high output equipment from Macpi, and not everyone in the industry thought it was as great of an idea as I did.

I do enjoy being challenged, and I also enjoy defending my position. What I found was happening was certain people wanted to argue just for the sake of being difficult. They were doing it in a disrespectful way that lacked tact.

It was draining my batteries and taking away from the positive energy I like to bring to almost any situation.

I reminded myself I don’t need to win every argument or every challenge. If it creates a net drain on my energy, it is okay to walk away.

This is an advanced strategy because it takes discipline to do. We all want to win and prove our point but sometimes it is not worth the loss of energy to prove a point. In those circumstances it is okay to walk away.

Sometimes the only way to win, is to not play. That helps us manage our energy.

This can be true in relationships, with clients, with team members, with peers in the industry, and with certain environments. Try to stay in situations where your batteries are being charged rather than in situations where your batteries are being drained.

By managing your energy, you will make sure to have the positivity to do the things you are working on.

One last thing – it is okay to be misunderstood while pursuing your vision. If you are trying to do things most people have been unable to do, they won’t understand what you’re doing or why you’re doing it.

Get comfortable with people not getting you as long as you have the clarity of your vision and you are continuing to execute your plan.

Have a great week my friend!
Dave
