Are You Playing to Win?

Are you playing to win, or are you playing not to lose?

Most people who have a scarcity mindset are playing not to lose. They are trying to hold on to what they have, they believe opportunities and resources are limited, and to grow, they have to take something away from someone who already has what they want. They don’t share great ideas, and they do not work to build others up. These people are ducks, and they sit on their eggs to protect whatever they have.

People who play to win, on the other hand, have an abundance mindset. There is more than enough success to go around, money and resources easily flow out and also easily flow in, and a collaborative mindset helps them think of ideas and improvements that benefit everyone. These people soar like eagles, trying to get the best view to seize their many opportunities.

If you want to play to win, you MUST let go of the ducks you hang around. They can pull you down and hold you back like a heavy anchor. Instead, you MUST identify the eagles you can hang out with and fly high (and often) with them. I have found it very difficult to turn a duck into an eagle. Changing a person’s mindset from scarcity to abundance can be done, but it can be very challenging.

That is why I created Maverick Drycleaners. We are a group of eagles with big goals and dreams, and we lift each other up, encouraging one another to achieve what others believe is impossible. When you are playing to win, the right people will hear what you are saying, and they will want to help you get there. The right ones will get it. The right people will love your mission and will support you as you achieve your big dreams and goals.

The world needs ducks, and there are a lot of them out there. But the world also needs eagles. Most entrepreneurs dream of being eagles but settle for being ducks, especially after they have been beaten down in the operations of the business.
